Stupidity – behavior that shows a lack of good sense or judgment “I can’t believe my own stupidity”

Job Talent Agency – Ask me is this your current work number.  I said “I’m not working.  She replied that is what I thought.

Job Talent Agency – Ask me is Macon, WI too far I replied “It is the same distance as “Franklin, WI”.  She said oh.

Working In A Collaborative Area

I’ve been exposed to the collaborative work sites.  I really would like to say that I’m a victim of the collaborative work area.  Or do I want to say that the powers that be and ones that arranged this area had ulterior motives in mind when the seating arrangements were decided upon.

There are a lot of thought that should go into the design, layout, and right down to who is actually is setting by who.  One should keep in mind that we are in a collaborative work areas not a social work area.  Being in this collaborative work area I look around and I see how people make the environment work for them.

If you are a person with a domineering personality – they end to talk loud and demand attention be on them.  The also decide when you can turn back to your work station and resume work responsibilities. (borderline bully)

There are those who try not to talk because they might be concentrating on one item.  One might be concentrating on several items.   One might be also concentrating on a multiple of items that are business and personal.  Because one individual is quite and the next individual is loud.  You have the individual that just want to fit in tends to be the audience for the loud and the proud.

Culture Change

In order to change the culture and make an environment of a varied diversity work cohesively together it has to come from the top. You have to have a strong leader. You have to have a leader that has been a victim and know what it feels like with a vision to make a change. Otherwise you are left with nothing being done taking 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. Find yourself going in circles. Present an open atmosphere of communication, honest feedback and if it is of a particular team make everyone feel like a contributor. They say diversity is getting better but I do not think so. There is a long road ahead.

Stay Focused

Don’t get distracted. There are three kinds of people you will meet in life: (1) The critic. They’re the first to point an accusing finger and the last to extend a helping hand. (2) The cautious. When you’re in trouble they’ll distance you lest they become tainted by your perceived liabilities. These people are not bad, they’re just self-serving. Don’t put your trust in them. (3) The committed. “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Recognize such people and build your life around them because they are a gift from God.

How were Oscar writers comfortable enough to write a joke like that? A host has a script – and especially in the case of a big awards show like the Oscars – there are several “copy check points.” Crystal ultimately delivered (he could have refused), but I believe the scriptwriters understood how highly inappropriate that joke would be. But they just didn’t care enough to leave it out, and every message has meaning.

It bothers me that none of the writers stopped to think about the feelings of the other black actors and actresses in the room. It bothers me that some in the audience were so de-sensitized that they laughed out loud. It bothers me that no one considered the sensitivity of the situation – Octavia Spencer had just won an Academy Award for playing a maid, a role she’s defended to those who feel blacks are rewarded with Oscar only when their character is subservient / enforces a stereotype onscreen. It bothers me that no one will be accountable for writing such insensitive copy. It bothers me to think about struggling black actors and actresses who fall in love with an industry that lets them down. It bothers me that I’m writing this blog in 2012…that society is still recovering from the damage done by bigots who advocated racial segregation. It bothers me that the Academy would go so far as to emphasize the sentiment that black women are invisible in Hollywood, as far as they’re concerned.

While Oscar writers found humor in all this, I didn’t get the joke.
